About Vacation Rentals in Halifax

Halifax, Nova Scotia, the provincial capital, was founded by the British in 1749, who used the area as a stronghold in opposition to a French fort in Louisbourg. Halifax is filled to the brim with exciting historical attractions that make history buffs go head over heels. The place is a gourmet's delight as the place has a line-up of exquisite restaurants. Outdoor  enthusiasts can keep their days occupied as the area offers great shopping, cultural experiences and lots of green space to keep outdoor enthusiasts busy throughout their vacation. An active day means hiking, swimming, fishing, cycling, or giving your tan that much-needed recharge.

Halifax is a bustling city that has a long standing affair with the sea. A great place to start your holiday is no doubt, the Halifax Harbor. The second largest natural harbor in the world after Sydney, Australia. The harbor is the magnet that attracts vacationers and seafarers in large numbers. If you wish to know the reason behind the deep bond between Halifax and the sea, visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The museum has an impressive collection of nautical memorabilia including a display on shipwrecks off of Nova Scotia. What's more, the museum has the largest collection of wooden artifacts from the Titanic, including the only surviving deck chair. Some of the victims of the Titanic rest in Fairview, Olivett, and Baron de Hirsch cemeteries, their graves commemorated with small black headstones.

History buffs will also want to make a beeline for the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, the most visited historical site in Canada. The  citadel is a masonry structure, complete with garrison cells, earthen ramparts, musketry gallery, and defensive ditch. In all, four forts have occupied the grounds. The fort has been renovated while maintaining the original appearance of the fort as in 1856, when the last fort was built.

Want some outdoor adventure during your Halifax vacation? Head to Point Pleasant Park, a 186-acre park perched on a peninsula near the water's edge. For years, the park hosted several military batteries. The remnants of old forts, especially an eighteenth century martello tower can be found in the park. It is a field-day for the trail lovers as they have more than 25 miles of hiking trails that meander through the park. Bicycling is big business in the park, as is a small swimming and sunning beach overlooking Halifax Harbor. Halifax Public Gardens is a great spot for soaking up some sunshine.
