About Georgetown

George Town is the largest offshore banking center in the world. More than 500 banks exist in George Town, the capital of Cayman Islands. These add to the metropolitan flair of the town. Along with banks, restaurants and upscale shopping boutiques also provide a truly urban environment. That's not to say that outdoor activities can't be enjoyed here. Scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, hiking, jet skiing, and parasailing can be enjoyed in this Grand Cayman city. The Cayman Islands National Museum has a collection of more than 2000 exhibits depicting the natural, social, and cultural history of the Caymans, including a three-dimensional model showing the Caymans as small peaks of massive underwater mountains. The renovated building housing the museum also served as a jail and a house of worship. The museum features a gift shop, theater, and a café overlooking the ocean.

The Seven Mile Beach is located north of George Town, and is a wide, soft, white sand beach - ideal to step into from your Cayman Island Vacation Rentals in the Caribbeans. The generally calm waters here provide great swimming opportunities and a great time under the sun. Snorkelers have the reef waiting just offshore to explore. The Cayman Turtle Farm is located north of the Seven Mile Beach is a nature preserve detailing the history of the native turtles. Get up close with them. Scuba divers come to George Town in droves. Scuba diving has made the Caymans a popular vacation destination since the 1960s. Dive charters are arranged here, and one of the most popular dives here is "the best 12-foot dive in the world", Stingray City, located just off the northern tip of the island.

Sport fishing is a popular activity here as well. Grouper and snapper can be tracked down by bottom fishing. Wahoo, tuna, blue marlin, and dolphin can be tracked as you head deeper into sea. The Caymans are known for their fishing tournaments boasting enormous prize money.
