A jewel on the central Pacific Coast, Puerto Vallarta, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, offers a Mexican vacation with a blend of the traditional and the modern. Puerto Vallarta region has over 26 miles of beaches, hand-made crafts shops, and discos. Over 330 days of sunshine provide the ideal atmosphere for some water sports and adventure action. Swimming, surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, golf, tennis, and pleasure boating can all be a part of an active Puerto Vallarta vacation.

The beaches at Puerto Vallarta are of many. Banderas Bay has wide expanses of sand as well as quiet beaches. The Playa Los Muertos beach has rough water that attracts surfers, but may discourage swimmers. Playa Mismaloya, south of town, is located in a sheltered cove. It's an ideal snorkeling location, and the beach offers perfect solitude and sun tan opportunities.

A large variety of aquatic life is part of Puerto Vallarta's waters. Make a date with the Los Arcos Marine Park, an underwater national park protected by the Mexican government. Serious divers only should attempt dives here, as at a certain point the shallows give way to a wall that tumbles down to a depth of over 800 feet. Marietas Island, located about 20 miles from Puerto Vallarta, is another site favored by divers of all skill levels. The bulk of the reef is located between 15-90 feet, making this an excellent site for beginner divers.
