17 May 2007: Summer Vacation In Big Bear

17 May 2007, Big Bear Lake, CA, United States

Summer Vacation In Big Bear
I've toured California many a time, but one of those visits got me hooked. The gray cells in my brain kept conjuring up the world I left behind long after I'd returned. The exotic new world I visited was Big Bear Lake in Inland Empire, California.

I know the name doesn't sound much, and it never played around in the mind much before the trip. I've been to quite a lot of lakes and forests, and loved them. The experience ended there. But Big Bear Lake did prove to be different, the reason being the blend of seclusion and activity that suits all travelers, as I realized during my stay in Big Bear.

Staying in a vacation rental by the Big Bear Lake does have its benefits, chiefly the lakefront views. I could sit for hours and hours doing nothing but peering into the crystal clear waters of Big Bear Lake. I believe anyone who thinks of taking a break from the mundane needs to head to a lakefront Big Bear vacation rental.

But the lure of a lakeside activity is pretty intense for me. I decided to have a go at the recreational activities by the lake. The boating trip was awesome, and it's not something related plainly to the beauty of the lake. It's got to do with the amazing glimpses of the fish that play around. It struck me that there's a world we hardly think of frolicking in a watery existence. No wonder anglers love it here!

The lake captured my attention. But the nearby San Bernardino National Forest arrested my imagination! The many hiking trails here through the middle of the forest put things into perspective, and I could even write a poem from one of the trails! If that's what Big Bear does to the most prosaic of individuals, it's sure to work its magic on any traveler who graces the shores of the lake.

Big Bear is truly stunning, more so if you decide to stay for more than a week. Seven days wasn't enough for me. The winter would cover Big Bear in a white blanket. Waiting for my next vacation to check that out.
