A Location Steeped In History
A family trip to Fort Morgan, Alabama, will not only provide you with a sense of amazement as you explore the natural beauty of the Alabama Gulf Coast, but it will also give you some great historical lessons that are so often lost in today’s hectic world. We have school-aged children, so the educational element was important to us when planning for our vacation. Our Fort Morgan Vacation gave us some of the knowledge of the past which has for so long gone unnoticed and filled us with a desire to learn more about the Gulf Coast of Alabama and all that she has to offer.
One of the first places we headed was to Fort Morgan. Fort Morgan was initially constructed in 1819, and was completed and ready for usage in 1834. Unfortunately that time came too soon as her defenses were readied for use during the Civil War and played a major role in that war during the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. Later, the fort would be used in subsequent American wars, from the Spanish-American War in the late 1800s and early 1900s, to both World War I & II. We certainly learned a lot about US history while at Fort Morgan! Fort Morgan is open to visitors April through October and November through March, while the museum which is also housed near the fort is open year-round. Although a great travel destination for kids of all ages, Fort Morgan has recently been named an endangered historical site, and needs the support of all Americans to visit and to understand its contribution to the history of the United States. Fort Morgan makes for a wonderful travel destination for all vacationers, and we strongly recommend that you make it a part of your next visit to the Alabama Gulf Coast. Related Links |
