About Amelia Island

Amelia Island, a 20-minute drive from Jacksonville, has two excellent beach resorts, and interesting day-trips if you feel like moving from the beach or pool. Take a walk or a boat tour, visit a historic fort,  stroll through a beautiful Victorian town, ride horses - you can do all that on Amelia Island. 
       
Because of its location in northern Florida, Amelia Island is cooler in summer than further south. The island also has cool sea breezes. Amelia Island is long and narrow -- only two miles wide. On one side is beaches - all of 13 miles! April, May and June are the months to visit Amelia Island. You may prefer cooler winter months, for golf.

Brief thunderstorms are common in late spring an autumn, but you get no hurricanes in Amelia Island. Grande Oaks, which is situated directly on the Amelia River, is a is a neighborhood of classically designed homes. Grande Oakes is in the northeastern-most corner of Florida. Stroll along the postcard perfect Centre Street and enjoy the diverse shops, galleries and restaurants including the oldest saloon in Florida.
