Georgia witnessed two of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War. History buffs must not miss the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park in Fort Oglethorpe, as the park preserves the sites of the Battle of Chickamauga and Chattanooga. The small town of Helen, a re-creation of an alpine village complete with old-world towers and cobblestone alleys. This little town has a rich history linked to the Cherokee Indians and Indian burial mounds. The area is a shopper's paradise and you will get everything from candles to cuckoo clocks. Festivals and special events in the area include a hot air balloon race, Volksmarch, Winefest, Oktoberfest and Christmas parades. The area is also an outdoor lover's paradise with river tubing, horse back riding, and mountain biking. 

Hikers can get a taste of the southernmost point of the Appalachian Trail, which continues all the way to Maine. Bartram Trail, another popular trail with hikers, extends 37 miles from the Georgia-North Carolina border to the west fork of the Chattanooga. Cooper Creek offers both excellent trout fishing and a host of hiking opportunities notably, the yellow mountain trail, and mill shoals trail. Lake Russell, which is located close to Clarksville, offers vacationers the opportunity to try some angling or take a swim or even a moonlight cruise. Canoing and white water rafting are popular.

Visit Tallulah Gorge, and don't miss the Tallulah Falls, the six separate falls with exciting names such as 'sweet sixteen' and 'bridal veil'.  If you are looking for a vacation filled with everything, come and enjoy the North Georgia Mountains.
