About Kalaheo Kalaheo, in Kauai, Hawaii, provides the vacationer with a gateway to the west where you'll find the spectacular Waimea Canyon, and also to the east where the gorgeous beaches of Poipu beckon. Located on the southern portion of the Hawaiian garden island of Kauai, the tiny town of Kalaheo was born as a 178-acre land that King Kamehameha III leased to Duncan McBride in 1860. Development accelerated after Duncan's son Walter purchased the land that makes up Kalaheo after his father's death. Homesteading was on Walter's mind, and a large portion of the Kalaheo land was set apart for it. The Kukulolono Park and Golf Course was built here in 1929, and is one of the best, rather, nicest golf courses on Kauai. You can also visit the 'Olu Pua Gardens, which are Tropical botanical gardens located off Highway 50 just before Kalaheo town. The tiny town of Kalaheo ain't just a gateway to more spectacular locations, but a vital stop for history lovers. If you're looking for a complete Hawaii vacation, you absolutely need a few informative visits, and Kalaheo would ideally make for such a visit. Hotels, shops, and restaurants are all close by, so you can have a comfortable, quiet little time at Kalaheo. |
