Getting to the valley is relatively easy, as the Molokai's main highway runs directly to Halawa from the main city of
Kaunakakai and takes about one and half hours to complete. This 30 mile trip is a quite pleasant one. Molokai holds another distinction: it was the home to the selfless priest, Father Damien, who extended a kind hand to the island's leper colonies during the late part of the 1800s.
The main city near Molokai is called Kaunakakai and is home to the majority of restaurants and is the island's shopping center. Walking down the dusty roads you will reach the Wharf Road. This is home to Molokai Wharf. It was often the first thing to be seen by workers who sailed in to work the plantations in Molokai. Which is why it is compared to the island's Statue of Liberty.
