Mount Desert's ponds offer for some scenic canoeing but swimming is prohibited in ponds that serve as public water reservoirs. Acadia National Park has some 120 miles of hiking trails. The park is studded with low 'mountains', and almost all have trails with superb views of the ocean. For an easier hike in Acadia, find the parking lot at Day Mountain, between Seal Harbor and the Blackwoods campground. Views of the Cranberry Islands are good and you can glimpse the carriage roads as you gradually ascend. |
