For the vacationer, a day's itinerary in Massachusetts can include hiking, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, white-water rafting, golf, antique hunting, or visiting one of the area's many historical sights. Western Massachusetts is a playground for all those who love the Great Outdoors. Flower-filled valleys rise to meet the highest mountain peaks while hiking trails meander past bubbling streams and over rocky drumlins. Bourne, Massachusetts, is the perfect place to escape during your Cape Cod vacation. Bourne is much the same as it was when President Grover Cleveland came here to fly fish in the 1890s, although with an increase in traffic patterns over the past 100+ years. Brewster, Massachusetts, is an ideal setting for a Cape Cod vacation. Named for pilgrim leader William Brewster, this scenic little village has stood on its own seafaring legs since 1803, when it formally separated from Harwich. Brewster was once the main spot of the shipping industry on the Cape. Today, the mansions built by wealthy sea captains are still here, beacons of a bygone era. Sitting quietly on Cape Cod Bay, Brewster has everything one could ask for in a Cape vacation. Chatham is another hot favorite for a Cape Cod vacation. The clapboard mansions built by sea captains during the 1800s are still around today, beacons of Chatham's sea faring prosperity. The town's streets are lined with quaint boutiques and excellent restaurants, perfect respites for shoppers and "foodies" of all description. Nantucket prides itself on its isolation. Thirty miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Nantucket is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax on a beach, eat some incredible seafood, and enjoy the solemn Atlantic waves.
