The New Hampshire Lakes Region has around 273 lakes and is a popular four-season vacation destination. Lake Winnipesaukee, which stretches 72 miles across, is New Hampshire's largest lake.
The larger lakes in the lakes region include; Winnipesaukee, Waukewan, Big Squam, Little Squam, Lake Winnisquam, Lake Wentworth, Newfound Lake and more than 250 other lakes, ponds and various bodies of water. Anglers come here in search of the lake trout, large and small mouth bass, and salmon. Make to trip to the Madison Boulder, billed America's largest glacial traveler. The large rock sits in the woods about a quarter of a mile off the main road near Madison, NH. It is about the size of a 3-story building and, amazingly, bears no resemblance to the rocks in the area. It was probably lopped off the top of a mountain miles away and deposited there by the glaciers during the ice age. The rock is a popular place for beer parties. Laconia, in the NH Lakes Region in Madison, is home to the annual motorcycle races which attract motorcyclists from all over the country. The New Hampshire International Speedway is located here. Weirs Beach in Madison is both a town and beach area with an arcade, bumper cars, souvenir shops, and plenty of shore side restaurants. |
