The Seacoast Region of
New Hampshire has been a family vacation destination for generations. The 18-mile coastline of Seacoast offers sandy beaches, picturesque villages and working ports. The region stretches for 13 miles along the Atlantic Ocean -- from Salisbury,
Massachusetts to the Piscataqua River and Kittery,
Maine. The Isles of Shoals, a short ferry ride out into the Gulf of Maine, are also considered to be in the Seacoast Region. These isles provide an additional 5 miles of coastline to the region. The isles include White, Seavey's, Lunging Island, and Star Islands. Portsmouth is the most important of all the small towns that make up Seacoast area. It is ideal for a day trip.
Hampton Beach State Park is a popular family destination. This park is characterized by its beach-boardwalk attractions. Activities along the Seacoast region can include shelling, sun bathing, hiking, cycling, kayaking, fishing, sight-seeing, or visiting one of the historical sights relating to the Revolutionary War. Hampton Beach State Park offers Atlantic oceanfront facilities situated along miles of sandy beach. It is a spot for year-round recreation, and the Seashell complex here includes a band shell amphitheater and public information services. Activities offered here include fishing, swimming, picnicking, and RV camping.
Wallis Sands is a wonderful family beach! It's not too large and is bordered on both sides by a barrier of rocks. A large grassy area between the beach and the parking lot is perfect for frisbee, volleyball or wiffleball! In Odiorne State Park picnickers can enjoy sweeping views of the ocean and rocky shore, and explorers can uncover evidence of past military occupation. An extensive network of trails wind through the dense vegetation and traverse the park.
