About Murphy

Murphy is a small town in the southern Appalachian mountains in Cherokee County, the most south-western county in the North Carolina. Located in the Mountains Area of NC, Murphy has retained the small town America flavor, with low traffic, less noise, friendly people, and a variety of small stores and shops. Murphy was named after Archibald Murphey, a state legislator who gained a reputation as a supporter of education in this region.

The area is perfect for canoing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, and golfing. Waiting for guests of Murphy Vacation Homes are the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee Hills Golf Course, the Nantahala National Forest, the Joyce Kilmer Forest and Slickrock Wilderness Area, Fields of the Wood, the Indian Reservation at Cherokee, and Historic District at Brasstown. Huntington Hall in Murphy is located 30 miles west of the Nantahala River and 30 miles east of the Ocoee River, site for World Class Kayak and Canoing Events!

You can visit the John C. Campbell Folk School, located in Brasstown, dedicated to the teaching of traditional music, mountain crafts, and local mountain folklore. For visitors to Murphy restaurants and eating establishment offering steaks and seafood, Italian, German, Chinese, barbeque, and country cuisine are just a short drive away.
