About West Virginia![]() West Virginia, formed from Virginia, is located in east-central United States, with Charleston the capital of and the largest city in West Virginia. Snowshoe, Berkeley Springs, and Canaan Valley Area are some of the popular vacation destination in the state. The Ohio River makes up much of the upper western boundary of West Virginia, while the Potomac River forms a section of the northern boundary. The Great Kanawha, Little Kanawha, Monongahela, and Shenandoah rivers cross the state. West Virginia is crossed by the Appalachian Mountains as well. Snowshoe in West Virginia is one of the most popular skiing destinations on the East Coast. The Snowshoe Village is nestled on the top of the mountain. The Village is made up of 17 restaurants and bars, some specialty shops, swimming pools and gaming areas. It's the place for some non-stop fun. The mountain here gets more than 180 inches of snow per year. Fourteen lifts whisk visitors to 57 trails, most of which can accommodate all skill levels. The "Western Territory" of the mountain is home to the famous Cupp Run. Here, advanced skiers and snowboarders can participate. Snowshoe in West Virginia has a famous ski and snowboarding school, and can also accommodate physically challenged skiers. Snowshoe Mountain also boasts the highest beach in elevation on the east coast. Shaver Lake provides the beach. Situated on the basin side of the mountain, the lake offers swimming, canoing and kayaking opportunities. The Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe is one of the most popular golf courses in the US. |
